Colophon:Swedish event, so the title references Povel Ramel's old song "De sista entuiasterna".Well aware that there a lot of demo people in Sweden. But few so dedicated to the Commodore-retro-scene.

ericade.radio - Time for Flashback, tracks from the past - with your host DJ Daemon

DJ Daemon Time for flashback! Tracks from the past! With your host, DJ Daemon. Today it's all about Commodore-träffen 2022. Let's go back two days to our live broadcast. This is the Ericade Radio Network. We're now going live from a remote location.Yes, hello Sweden hello, Teabee hello, Kvarntorpsgården I think was the name of it. We're broadcasting live, here's DJ Daemon and we have Hravnkel here sitting beside me, but he does not have a microphone. We're gonna set up for some really cool stuff today and tomorrow. But while you're waiting, we of course have the music.

DJ Daemon speaks.

Live broadcast excerpt - Commodore-klubben live

Clara-chan - Klezmer Camel

DJ Daemon speaks.

DJ Daemon Female-tracked music artists, are rare, but this was Clara-chan and Klezmer Camel. Let's talk about Commodoreträffen, but I got someone here who can tell much more about it than I can. Welcome, Hravnkel, what's up? Hello there! Finally time for a Commodore meeting. It's been... It's truly a pleasure being here. We had to postpone it due to the pandemic and now we're here. And the pandemic is over, guess. Enough to let a few of us meet again, at least. Yeah, I guess so. I mean, we can't stay locked down forever, can we now? No, we really can't. And it's quite funny. It's the first time we actually meet in real life. And I mean, how long have we known each other? For almost like five years ago, through VBSs and stuff. Yeah, exactly. It's this old cabin. Yeah, but...What's happening today? Today it's mostly unpacking and people showing up. The exhibition here at Commodore Treffen is being built up today. And to be fair, it's absolutely stunning. We have most systems from Commodore, up from the PET up to Amiga 1200, I believe, is the newest Commodore system available. So that's really something. Yeah, something to look forward for.Nothing on Sunday, we're packing down then I guess. On Sundays mostly packing down, but that depends on when you count Sunday to start. It starts at midnight and I suppose there will be definitely some Commodore data going on there. Tell me a little bit about what's happening at 9 o'clock here in Swedish time. Tonight we're going for the... We have a hangout in the Commodore Klubben called Late Night with Commodore Klubben.Moving around, we have been visiting various members during the pandemic and doing a live event through our Discord. Tonight we're broadcasting that from Commodoreträffen, so there will be a of a social gathering for those who cannot attend and also those who do attend here. Okay, that's great. All right, so...

Interview - Hravnkel

DJ Daemon If you're not Swedish, is there anything to do here? Will we broadcast in Swedish or in English? Basically, the event, you could listen to the Educate Radio, course. Hopefully you're already doing that. But apart from that, it's mostly member activities, but there will be available for those who are members. We will have a Commodore veteran.Talk tomorrow evening at 9 o'clock via Zoom. That will be broadcast from here and with a guest online. And apart from that, there will be lots of happenings on our Discord channel, of course. But mostly this is a physical social gathering. Great. OK, Clamador.rc if you want to watch it. On with the music. Thank you, Hravnkel. And afternoon gruing coming up. Nope. We're doing something else.

DJ Daemon speaks.

Argh of TB - Waiting for summer

DJ Daemon speaks.

DJ Daemon Argh of TB, waiting for summer. Summer is over, and so is Svenska Commodore Klubbens event called Commodore Träffen. It was two days ago, and it started on a nice Friday. I went there and we started broadcasting live. You heard the intro and the interview there. We played a lot of great music from the station. It was very, very appreciated by people there. The first day it was mostly setting stuff up and making sure everything was working. It's a great way of seeing weird Commodore stuff, like SX64's and all the kind of different versions that you may not never have seen before. It's a real museum and it was kind of like a meeting, not a demo party, but it still had some demo party-ish things.

SgtPepperArc360 Multimedia featuring Malmen and XYCE - Over The Horizon 2017

DJ Daemon speaks.

DJ Daemon SgtPepperArc360 multimedia featuring Malmen and XYCE, Over the Horizon 2017.on the friday at 9 pm swedish time central european time that is when we had a live broadcast not just our broadcast but actually svenska kommodore klubben had something called late night with svenska kommodore klubben and yeah it was in swedish i was interviewed there yeah seriously and they also had a view and tour a very nice one of the museum and the repair shop that they set upAnd we had Björn, Hravnkel and the other Björn, Björn A, talking about the origins of Commodore and Commodore Klubben. Really nice.

Carebear of Insane - Farawayadventure

DJ Daemon Carebear of Insane, Farawayadventure. Yesterday was the main day and quite an adventure when Commodoreträffen held its main event. It held Joakim Melin from the magazine Datormagazin Retro. was on location and sold the newspaper and some t-shirts. It comes out with a new issue every year, yes, if there is enough interest.between 1 and 3 PM, the public was invited and we had something called Dataspelsmusik Quiz, which was a quiz from 7 PM from the scene with Frida Katari. Now we spoke about her, she's that petzki artist. And at 9 PM, they had a yearly Commodore speech with Michael Tomczyk.

DJ Daemon speaks.

Szudi of A B s e n C e - Conqueror of virgins

DJ Daemon Szudi of Absence, I think he is compensating for something when he calls the song Conqueror of Virgins. And today is Sunday, they just shut everything down and went home. Great event, alas the broadcast from Saturday was cut short due to health issues on my part. But we got something out of it and they got a lot of great music really.from Commodore's stuff, but also from Impulse Tracker, Ataris and whatever. I know Hravnkel doesn't really like the fact there was some Atari songs in the mix, but that's where we are.

DJ Daemon speaks.

Dakota - Fly in space

DJ Daemon speaks.

DJ Daemon Dakota fly in space and that's all we got about SCK or Svenska Commodoreklubben. Alas if you're not natively speaking Swedish, commodore.se does not have much material for you. It is a Swedish club, but I wanted you to know that they are doing great stuff. We are going on with some more music. This is Flashback, tracks from the past and I'm DJ Daemon.

Mrs Beanbag - Holiday

DJ Daemon speaks.

DJ Daemon Mrs Beanbag and Holliday. And the question is what's up on the demo front? We just had Jumalauta 22 years Finnish demo party. Pretty silly one, but they liked it that way. We had of course SCK, i.e. Commodoreträffen, you know that. But what's up in the future? There are a number of small ones, but the ones I'm looking forward to is Deadline 2022 in the end of September and Flash Party 2022 in the beginning of October. So that's great.

Laamaa - Wb22-wk21

DJ Daemon speaks.

DJ Daemon Lama! Or Lamer or Lama or whatever. And the song is called WB22-WK21. I have no idea what that is. Some secret code I guess. And I get something for you. Two weeks from now, Ericade Radio, it will be two years old. Yeah, that's right. We've been on since 2020 in the dreadful year of Corona.Okay, so it's 2022 and still a dreadful year in Corona. I'm sorry about that. All word with the music, because that's still fun.

Nitehawk - Somewhere in time

DJ Daemon speaks.

DJ Daemon Nitehawk and Somewhere in time. We're doing soft and melodious today. And you know something? Fall is here or autumn, whatever you want to call it. I was out walking today and I saw a lot of leaves, yellow leaves coming down from the trees. It's the 28th of August today. It's early, but it's sweet. I love, I love the fall. It's my favorite season.

Lagioto - Even or odd

DJ Daemon speaks.

DJ Daemon Lagioto, Even or Odd, an impulse tracker song. And you should know that our web page, our website is ericade.radio. You can request tunes there if you want to, you can search for them, you can send an email to me or just listen to two radio stations, one rerun of the podcast and one with 24-7 of the greatest tracked music.

Revisq of Anadune - Bombastic

DJ Daemon speaks.

DJ Daemon Revisq of Anadune. Bombastic! And we get some bombastic news for you. You should know this, but it's 40 years to this month since the Commodore 64 launched in the United States. We talked about it last episode, so I won't repeat that. But if you think about it, it's quite a thing, quite an accomplishment. And 1987 the Amiga 500 came out and one guy told me, look, it's one of those oldest computers that's still viable to use for modern stuff. Yeah.

Tempo - Underground People

DJ Daemon speaks.

DJ Daemon Tempo and underground people. And here is me, DJ Daemon, leading you into that good night... Oh, I'm sorry, I should tell you this. That is actually how I sign off every podcast. And it's also an old Dylan Thomas poem. He died in 1953. And the poem is called Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night. Here is the first stanza. Do not go gentle into that good night. Old age should burn and rave at the close of the day.Rage, rage against the dying of the light. He wrote it to his father who was dying at the time. But it's a beautiful poem and, well, leading you into that good night is Trixie of vectors and waves. And final song for today is Yannis Brown, Kinetically Funkified Chi.

Mp3 file details

Waveform of episode 103, The last enthusiasts from up north, left channel above, right channel below: level in dB against time, 1:00:25 long. Open the waveform at full size (opens in a new tab)
Waveform A picture of the whole recording from start to end. The taller the shape, the louder that moment; the left channel is on top and the right channel below it. The scale up the side is the level in dB, the one along the bottom is the time. Select the picture to open it at full size.
Scan status Whether the station’s analyser could read this mp3. “OK” means every number in this box was measured from the actual audio, not copied from a tag that somebody typed.
OK
measured from the file itself
Scanned When the file was last analysed. If the mp3 is replaced afterwards, these numbers describe the old version until it is scanned again.
File size How much room the mp3 takes on a disk, and how much data you use when you play or download it. It is roughly the bit rate multiplied by the length.
84.6 MB
88 727 834 bytes
File last changed When the mp3 on our server was last written - usually the day it was uploaded, or encoded again.
Length How long the recording plays. It is measured from the audio itself, so it is right even when a tag in the file says something else.
1:00:25
hours : minutes : seconds
Bit rate How much data is spent on each second of sound. More data keeps more detail when the audio is squeezed into an mp3: 128 kbit/s is acceptable, 192 is good, and 320 is the most an mp3 can hold.
196 kbit/s
good quality
Sample rate Digital audio is a long row of measurements of the sound wave. This is how many are taken every second. 44.1 kHz is the CD standard and 48 kHz the video and broadcast standard - both capture everything a human ear can hear.
44.1 kHz
44 100 measurements a second
Channels How many separate signals the file holds. Mono is one. Stereo is two - left and right - which is what lets a sound be placed somewhere between your speakers.
Stereo
2 channels
Codec The method used to shrink the audio. MP3 leaves out the detail an ear is least likely to miss, which makes the file about a tenth of the size of the original recording.
MP3
Loudness The average loudness of the whole recording, the way a listener hears it (“integrated loudness”, in LUFS). The closer to 0, the louder. Music services aim for about -14 and podcasts for about -16, so that you do not have to reach for the volume between tracks.
−14.3 LUFS
typical for streaming and podcasts
Loudness range The distance between the quiet passages and the loud ones, in LU (1 LU is 1 dB). A small number means an even, compressed sound - good in a car or on a phone. A large number means big swings between soft and loud.
2.2 LU
very even
True peak The highest level the signal ever reaches, including the peaks that appear between the measurements when the file is turned back into sound. 0 is the ceiling: above about -1 dBTP, a recording can crackle (“clip”) on some players.
−2.2 dBTP
safely below the ceiling
Dynamic range How far the loudest peaks stand above the loud parts of the recording, in dB - the “DR” number that music collectors compare albums by. A low number (under 8) means the sound has been squeezed until everything is equally loud: punchy, but tiring to listen to. 14 and up means the music has room to breathe, with real hits and real quiet. It says nothing about how loud the file is: turning the volume down does not change it. Chip music made of steady square waves naturally lands low.
DR 11
10.6 dB · moderately dynamic
Left channel level The average strength of the left channel over the whole recording (“RMS”), counted in dB below the loudest level a digital file can hold (dBFS). More negative means quieter. Compare it with the right channel.
−16.9 dBFS
average (RMS) over the whole file
Right channel level The average strength of the right channel over the whole recording (“RMS”), counted in dB below the loudest level a digital file can hold (dBFS). More negative means quieter. Compare it with the left channel.
−16.9 dBFS
average (RMS) over the whole file
Channel balance The left level minus the right level. Close to 0 dB means both sides are equally loud. More than about 1 dB and the whole mix leans towards one ear.
0.03 dB
balanced
Stereo width How strong the part that DIFFERS between left and right is, compared with the part they share. A very low number (-40 dB or less) means both sides carry the same sound - mono in practice. A higher number means a wider stereo picture; a very high one can sound thin on a single speaker.
−11.3 dB
ordinary stereo
Cover art in the file Whether a picture is stored inside the mp3 itself. A player shows it as the album art when the file is played somewhere else - in a car, on a phone, offline.
Yes

ID3 tags Text stored inside the mp3 file itself - title, artist, album and so on. It is what a music player, a phone or a car stereo shows while it plays the file, and it travels with the file wherever it is copied.

album The album or collection the file says it belongs to. Stations and encoders sometimes use this field for notes of their own.
Flashback - Tracks from the past
artist Who made or performs the recording, as it is written inside the file.
The ERICADE Radio Network
comment A free note somebody left inside the file.
https://radio.ericade.net/podcast
composer Who wrote the music, when that is somebody other than the performer.
Erik Zalitis
genre The style of music, or the kind of programme, the file says it is.
Podcast
title The name of the recording, as it is written inside the file.
103. The last enthusiasts from up north
track The number of this recording within its album - for a podcast, usually the episode number.
103
date The year, or date, the file says the recording is from.
2022
