ericade.radio - Time for another episode of Flashback - Tracks from the past

DJ Daemon Time for another episode of Flashback! Tracks from the past. The Aerocave Radio Network. Revision 2022 is wrapping up, but we have to wait for the music, so today we won't do that. Now, instead, let me introduce two gentlemen from the tracked scene, Sylo and Seror. Together they formed the duo Sisy. Here is no less than 2 hours of their music, with some stories told by me. First out, Dix. Well, don't laugh.

DJ Daemon speaks: Revision 2022 is wrapping up, but we have to wait for the music, so today, we won't do that. No, instead, let me introduce two gentlemen from the tracked scene: Xylo and Cerror. Together, they from the duo Xyce. 42s

Xyce - Dix

DJ Daemon promises two hours of music from the albums classeur, pop and Mosaik.43s

DJ Daemon You generally get just one hour of show or podcast, but today two hours because we love Sisy. It's music from Mosaic, Pop and Klesser, free of their albums that are available on Bandcamp. I'm DJ Daemon and we'll talk about artists later, but we must go on.So you go, here's the next one. I'm sorry if I'm butchering the French here, I'm not good with any language except Swedish and yeah, Swedish.

Xyce - Beaucoup

DJ Daemon talks about the album Pop. 62s

DJ Daemon We are mixing it up with Zeiss' different songs and albums, but so far it's been from POP, an album released in 2018, and they're writing on the Bandcamp site. Our seventh album, and full it is, with a whole bunch of songs made on a lot of different machines. This could be defined as 80s pop in terms of genre, terms of arrangement, harmonies and melodies. This sounded like the perfect title. Also, we wanted to name it Dicks first. That's ten in French. Okay, good to know that. But because most people will probably announce it differently than intended, that sounded kind of weird. Well, no disagreement there. Next up is Demise.

Xyce - Demise

DJ Daemon tells the listeners about Xylo and Cerror and their story. 86s

DJ Daemon The internet isn't exactly brimming with information about Psy-C, but information we can find. They are two people, Silo or Tom Ofringa and Sauror, real name Roel Herspink. Two guys from Groningen, the Netherlands that make music on old computers like the Commodore 64, the Amiga 500 or 1200, Gameboy, Sega Genesis and DOS PC. They write...After we met on a website around 2005, making chiptunes was more or less an internet thing for us. Because of the tiny format, it's so easy to share the files and projects. So cooperating on songs without physically being together is easy. All of you modern DAW users must envy me right now. Dudes, you have no idea. And next up, more shippy tuney. It's a Tantair.

Xyce - Attente

DJ Daemon continues the story about the duo.

DJ Daemon The story isn't over yet. They write on their web page. When Rowell, that's Seller, eventually moved to Groningen, making music together without having to sit behind our own screens became easier. This led us to making crap loads of modules and eventually a first co-op album.Around that time I visited a couple of ship tune parties in Delft and Utrecht and I got to know Franz Twisk. His name is Einbass. Next up we are switching to the album called Mosaic and it's Petit Ami Rouge.

Xyce - Petite amie rouge

DJ Daemon: Xyce, the break through.

DJ Daemon A years later, Eindbaas and a couple of other acts did a tour around a couple of cities in the Netherlands and asked us to join them for a little gig in Groningen. Nervous as hell, with us just playing Finnish songs instead of doing an elaborated set, our first gig happened. Little did we know that all these years later we would fly over oceans to press play on all these big parties. Still, elaborated sets. And smiley, we are switching back to Claeser and the song is called Auberg.

Xyce - Aube

DJ Daemon talks what he thinks about Xyce. 43s.

DJ Daemon No awards for you figuring it out. But if you haven't, let me tell you. We are playing each album A to C, sometimes switching to another album to give you another feel for it. My feeling for Sisy is that most of the songs are very similar in timbre, in genre, in style, in everything, and I think that is a good thing. It gives a very, very, should I say, consistent feel to everything.and we're gonna talk a little bit about the other albums in a few minutes, but we must go on. And maybe we should have started by saying bonjour.

Xyce - Bonjour

DJ Daemon mentions Revision 2022. 37s

DJ Daemon A little bit of an update about Revision 2022. It's ongoing and we have no time to get the music until 9 o'clock. Okay, as you're listening that has already happened. So next week or maybe the week after you will get a revision toplist. You know, we always do that. Next up is a song proving that Psy C isn't always serious. I don't think they are because the song is called Brain Fart Spandex.

Xyce - Brainfart spandex

DJ Daemon talks about his easter celebration and what his mother thinks about him shouting in the mike. 32s

DJ Daemon That is a nice song. I'm sitting here in southern Stockholm celebrating Easter and it's my mother's house. She is in the room here beside mine and she is wearing earplugs. Yeah, I'm not kidding you. She can't stand my screaming either. Going on with cartoon. Yeah, it's still sizey and this is a special episode about them.

Xyce - Carton

DJ Daemon talks about the podcast. 41s

DJ Daemon That's a song fit for any cartoon, I would say. This is Flashback, tracks from the past. I'm DJ Daemon, and you're listening to a music podcast with tracked music from Amiga, Atari, PC, and whatever can track music. That's a lot of machines, I tell you. We even had a guy here making track music on Game Boys. And so does actually Xyce. I don't think the next one is done on such a device.but it's called syncwanty and it's 30 minutes past the hour.

Xyce - Cinquante

DJ Daemon mentions that you can buy the albums (Bandcamp) for 27 Euro. 30s

DJ Daemon They have released a number of albums and you can buy all of them for 27 euros. I have and I think all the albums are good and most of the songs. That is a pretty good deal and you can replay them as long as it is replayed non-commercially without much restrictions. Great. We are going on with Cominards.

Xyce - Communards

DJ Daemon mentions his years in broadcasting and the upcoming demo party. 51s

DJ Daemon Flashback is part of the Ericade radio network. You can find us on Ericade.radio. My name is DJ Daemon and I'm celebrating my 28th year as a radio DJ. Okay, a community one at it have never held a solid position, but that won't stop me. No, I have a number of podcasts and this one is, well, it's the Amiga one. It's the Atari one, it's the PC one. If you like track music, this is the place just for you.And good stuff is coming up in the demo scene as well. As I said, revision is done. And last week we covered another demo party called GURPS 2022. And we will continue covering everything that comes up.

Xyce - Couleurs

DJ Daemon notes we're going over to the album Pop.

DJ Daemon We're leaving Klazör and going over to POP. For the rest of this hour you get that album and next hour, the second one, will be without me but all the music from Mosaic and POP you get only Zayze. So let's go on with the first one from POP here. It's the first song and it's called Ger.

Xyce - Guerre

DJ Daemon: as a radio amateur, I approve of the next song.

DJ Daemon As a radio amateur I must say, the next song I approve of it. It's called morse. And I wonder, can you decode it?

Xyce - Morse

DJ Daemon speaks about Mosaik.

DJ Daemon We shouldn't really forget about the third album, is called Mosaic. It's the third one of the three we're playing today, that is. So we are going on with, I hope I'm not butchering this totally, Mauve Genie. I think that means evil genius. I like that. That's great. That's an awesome name of an awesome track.

Xyce - Mauvais Genie

DJ Daemon goes about the "Pop".

DJ Daemon That was a bit of a detour, so we are going back to doing exactly what we promised to do. Well, that would be pop. Back again. And next up is Sisy, and they are cooperating with Rymdkraft. The song is called Dolphs Aerobics. A remix even.

Xyce - Rymdkraft - Dolph's aerobics (remix)

ericade.radio - With all the best music composed on Protracker, Noisetracker, Impulse tracker and Fast tracker

DJ Daemon The Ericade Radio Network with all the best music composed on Pro Tracker, Noise Tracker, Impulse Tracker and Fast Tracker.

Xyce - yogourt

DJ Daemon leads you into that good night. (or not?) 42s

DJ Daemon That is one fun song, another one like that cartoon one. It's called Jogart and I'm leaving the airwaves. This is me DJ Daemon and stick around because you get one more hour of this if you're listening on the podcast player, the radio station. But if you are listening on Ericade radio, the best of Ericade radio, the rerun station, sorry, it's all over right now. Next up is something else. Did you do you hear saying bye bye?and leading you into that good night, or maybe not. It's Xyce and Ola.

Xyce - Ola

DJ Daemon knows it's not christmas, but doesn't care. 18s

DJ Daemon one lost parting gift that I have to give you. It's not Christmas right now, but I think the Jingle Bells song they made here, this rendition is really, really nice.

Xyce - jingle bells

Xyce -

DJ Daemon

He got his Commodore 64 in 1989 and his first Amiga in 1990. A huge fan of tracker music and have had a long standing dream to create a radio show playing that kind of music. In 2020, that dream came true and in december Amiga Flashback started as a podcast. It was later renamed Flashback, tracks from the past and here we are.
He is also an orga for Swedish demo party Edison and a total retro nerd.

Mp3 file details

Waveform of episode 84, XYCE-ing through the music, left channel above, right channel below: level in dB against time, 1:59:39 long. Open the waveform at full size (opens in a new tab)
Waveform A picture of the whole recording from start to end. The taller the shape, the louder that moment; the left channel is on top and the right channel below it. The scale up the side is the level in dB, the one along the bottom is the time. Select the picture to open it at full size.
Scan status Whether the station’s analyser could read this mp3. “OK” means every number in this box was measured from the actual audio, not copied from a tag that somebody typed.
OK
measured from the file itself
Scanned When the file was last analysed. If the mp3 is replaced afterwards, these numbers describe the old version until it is scanned again.
File size How much room the mp3 takes on a disk, and how much data you use when you play or download it. It is roughly the bit rate multiplied by the length.
166.3 MB
174 346 421 bytes
File last changed When the mp3 on our server was last written - usually the day it was uploaded, or encoded again.
Length How long the recording plays. It is measured from the audio itself, so it is right even when a tag in the file says something else.
1:59:39
hours : minutes : seconds
Bit rate How much data is spent on each second of sound. More data keeps more detail when the audio is squeezed into an mp3: 128 kbit/s is acceptable, 192 is good, and 320 is the most an mp3 can hold.
194 kbit/s
good quality
Sample rate Digital audio is a long row of measurements of the sound wave. This is how many are taken every second. 44.1 kHz is the CD standard and 48 kHz the video and broadcast standard - both capture everything a human ear can hear.
44.1 kHz
44 100 measurements a second
Channels How many separate signals the file holds. Mono is one. Stereo is two - left and right - which is what lets a sound be placed somewhere between your speakers.
Stereo
2 channels
Codec The method used to shrink the audio. MP3 leaves out the detail an ear is least likely to miss, which makes the file about a tenth of the size of the original recording.
MP3
Loudness The average loudness of the whole recording, the way a listener hears it (“integrated loudness”, in LUFS). The closer to 0, the louder. Music services aim for about -14 and podcasts for about -16, so that you do not have to reach for the volume between tracks.
−14.1 LUFS
typical for streaming and podcasts
Loudness range The distance between the quiet passages and the loud ones, in LU (1 LU is 1 dB). A small number means an even, compressed sound - good in a car or on a phone. A large number means big swings between soft and loud.
1.9 LU
very even
True peak The highest level the signal ever reaches, including the peaks that appear between the measurements when the file is turned back into sound. 0 is the ceiling: above about -1 dBTP, a recording can crackle (“clip”) on some players.
−1.5 dBTP
safely below the ceiling
Dynamic range How far the loudest peaks stand above the loud parts of the recording, in dB - the “DR” number that music collectors compare albums by. A low number (under 8) means the sound has been squeezed until everything is equally loud: punchy, but tiring to listen to. 14 and up means the music has room to breathe, with real hits and real quiet. It says nothing about how loud the file is: turning the volume down does not change it. Chip music made of steady square waves naturally lands low.
DR 11
11.2 dB · moderately dynamic
Left channel level The average strength of the left channel over the whole recording (“RMS”), counted in dB below the loudest level a digital file can hold (dBFS). More negative means quieter. Compare it with the right channel.
−16.8 dBFS
average (RMS) over the whole file
Right channel level The average strength of the right channel over the whole recording (“RMS”), counted in dB below the loudest level a digital file can hold (dBFS). More negative means quieter. Compare it with the left channel.
−16.8 dBFS
average (RMS) over the whole file
Channel balance The left level minus the right level. Close to 0 dB means both sides are equally loud. More than about 1 dB and the whole mix leans towards one ear.
0.00 dB
balanced
Stereo width How strong the part that DIFFERS between left and right is, compared with the part they share. A very low number (-40 dB or less) means both sides carry the same sound - mono in practice. A higher number means a wider stereo picture; a very high one can sound thin on a single speaker.
−13.1 dB
ordinary stereo
Cover art in the file Whether a picture is stored inside the mp3 itself. A player shows it as the album art when the file is played somewhere else - in a car, on a phone, offline.
Yes

ID3 tags Text stored inside the mp3 file itself - title, artist, album and so on. It is what a music player, a phone or a car stereo shows while it plays the file, and it travels with the file wherever it is copied.
