🎤 Production Notes
This is one of those traditions, that are just neeeded. One XMAS and one New Years podcast. And I quickly decided on not doing any summaries of 2021. We had already done some of that in episode 66.Colophon:None. Just a straight title.
📝 Transcript
It's New Year's Eve and only three hours to go before 2021 is history. Here is me, DJ Daemon, spend the last three hours and some minutes into the new year with me.
Swedish artist Area 51 DNA, the melody of happiness. And it's a happy day, so get ready to open champagne bottles and celebrate 2022. We have a lot of good stuff to go through today. I've gone through Modarchive and their most popular tunes. That's what you're getting here. Tunes you've never heard on this station before and some stories.
Arachno and Electronic Dreams. We're almost at the first request, but before that we have some more nice music. It's Big Jim and the Dreaming of Foreign Skies.
And that's something really sweet. It's time for today's first request. It's from Correus, from Discord. And this is something really, really cool. It's called Firing Up by Maniacs of Noise. And that's a group, you may not heard about them, but you should have because that's Jaron Tell, Mick Rippon, Rod Thacker, Thomas Egeskog Pettersson and Thomas Margensen. Really, really...notable artists.
22 minutes of pure bliss that was maniacs of noise firing upSo let's dig into ModArchive and talk about some of the songs. The next one coming up here is called The Squirrel's Nuts. It's by Desi Belter and I think that squirrel is truly nuts. Pip Malt writes, nice song, really good bassline, nice melodies and progression, but there is no oomph. It's really thin. The drums and ambience is really sparse.Too bad, still 8, not a bad score. No, actually I disagree, I think it's just exactly the way it needs to be.
Ship tunes, I really love those. I don't know if you know this, but a ship tune is always a sample tune. It was originally a pretty ironic term, meaning a sample tune trying to sound like it was made on a SID ship or something. Next tune, we have a little bit of a commentary about as well, but let's hear it first.
of Sidbillies. Sidbillies? That's like hillbillies but with Sid ships? Or I don't know. The song is called Wings Over Dunwin and on the mod archive in 2013 Dark Rat wrote I think this is my favorite from Arachno. The melody and the title are beautiful. This is truly awesome. Is it? Yeah, I totally think it is.
The Thulo, the ream in a cell, worst god ever. I mean, I prefer the spaghetti monster personally. That octopi thing. Octopi Puss or whatever you wanna call it. Nah, doesn't do it for me. Going on with my cup of tea. And that, that's from Quasian of ShipStream.
This tune seems to be many people's cup of tea, mine included by the way. Pip Malt writes, another good ship tune by Quasian. It sounds very timeless, great melodies. It gets a bit boring near the end, however, the song could have been a bit shorter. Well, I need a tea break, so I do not agree. Then Bit.me or BT.me says,Since I'm having a cup of tea, this is a very well thought out track. Nice samples, good melodies that just add a nice feel to the tune. And only 88 kilobytes. Very well tracked, worth a listen or download while you're drinking your tea.
Blue Orion, Costa Rica blue. A much better thing than a Norwegian blue. You know that parrot from Monty Python? It seemed to be pining for the fjords forever. At any rate, we are going on with Arachno again. And D-Tracks, Summer Memories 2.
The Errorcade Radio Network can take requests whenever DJ Damon is live. Just go to discord.io forward slash T-E-R-N.
This is the Ericade Radio Network. We're now going live from a remote location. In a foreign land. I'm just kidding. I'm actually in the kitchen area of my living room. So we are five meters away from the normal broadcasting location. Second hour and it's the New Year 2021 special. Next song has a cool little text.I'm gonna read it to you, but first let's hear it.
The Euro 13. They write the following text on the mod-archive site. Try at least one time with a DMP or screen tracker. Watch the mildly amusing screen garble at the bitter end of the song. To my dismay, it won't happen with other trackers. well.Okay, so you have made a song that hacks the trackers. Thankfully the radio station is fine, it will not fall prey to suchI'm just kidding. Nope, it's no problem. We are still on.
rack and energy. One more comment about through the looking glass, the last song you know. It's from Ayasombra, posted in 2004. Well written and well expressed, complete ideas. Nice sample work with no clashing samples. The fading in the ending, nicely timed, catchy too. Manipulates samples well, nice fades and echoes.Complimenting great samples. Syncopation and the strings and synths are funky. I would be looking for the latest by Wolfgang Krauser and that by the way is the artist himself.
Citrix and thanks Roy. We are 12 minutes past the hour. Well, sort of kinda. And we are leaving 2021. As I'm broadcasting right now, it's actually 10 PM here in Stockholm, Sweden. And what a year it's been. Let's talk about something else.
Dream section, a falling star. But things are going up here in Sweden. I mean we are celebrating New Year's Eve and we are firing the fireworks. Hopefully nobody gets their fingers blown off. Yeah, you can hear it here in the background. Or ice put out or something. Be careful out there and don't scare your cats and dogs.
gave him 252 Revenge of the Cats and he actually put a lot of effort into the song that shows but even in text writing he writes and this is just an excerpt because he wrote like many screen pages of text. This piece has admittedly plenty of influence from a very old somewhat unknown song made by Fleshbrain called Time Bandit.unknown I assume, because it was not included among his songs in the Mod Anthology CD. His time bandit was one of the truly creative classics. It's very old however, born near very beginnings of the Amiga Tracker music genre, so the sound and the instrumentation weren't among the best, the very concepts were being built around that time. However, the mockingly cool melody and well-made working structure make it a true delight. My regards to the old master, and my regards to you. Your grammar may not be perfect, but your songs, are.
Addix and Emily. A really cool and nice song. Let's go on with something taken from a computer game and the story behind it.
Martin Iverson Jaguar XJ-220 And the story about the game? Well, in 2007, Mod posted this on the Mod-archive. A comment. The Jaguar XJ-220 game music was some of the best game music you would get in a driving game back then. With in-game car stereo allowing you to choose from a wide and varied selection of music, it was no wonder the game left a lasting impression on so many, myself included. For your convenience, in tracking down the other models for this game, here they are. Great, thank you very much. I wonder if that's by himself actually.
E-Tracks and Arachno, endless dreams. So time for the next request from Koreos. It's Lost Ninja 2 Street. That's a tune playing in the street fight part of the game. I believe that's the one where he is in New York. A really, really good one from the Commodore 64. This is a remix from Sleipner and that's...Some more fireworks.
Zeyzal Leipner made a remix of the Lost Ninja 2 street theme. 10 minutes of nice remembrance of an old game. The Lost Ninja series of games were released in the tales end of the C64 revolution and they were awesome all three of them. I remember playing the second installment that's where this song comes from but I saidThat's a remix. Now time for something a little bit different. It's Electric City and this song is in the AHX format. So it's a bit hard to get to play, but this one it works.
Electric City. We are going on with Elwood and Shooting Star. Some commentary about the song afterwards as per usual. This is Flashback, tracks from the past. I'm DJ Demon and please go to EriKade. Radio for more information.
Shooting Star signed Elwood. Atakuro wrote in 2019 while giving it a 10 out of 10. It's the best song yet and it was written on a mod archive. Much earlier in 1999 Rapture wrote and rated 8 out of 10 by the way. Elwood did it again a nice dance track with lots of melodies, sequencers, background voices and professional drums. candy! Aside from all professionalism and outstanding tracking skills from Elwood, I cannot give this tune a perfect 10 rating. The ending is too abrupt and the melodies aren't as catchy as in his other tunes. All in all it's still a very good tune. The samples aren't so good. Only 8 bit, kinda noisy at some parts. But...They were cleverly used within the tune.
That's right, we're leaving the second out of three hours and we are almost 11 o'clock here. So one last hour remains of 2021. So, okay, I'm going to talk a little bit about that year. The year we just suffered through or survived or maybe it was a happy year.
Hyggechan, Livet är en kebabtallrik. It's Swedish and means that life is a plate of kebab. Posted by Aliasman09 in September this year. It's a song that makes me happy. This will be one of my favorites.
Time for another episode of Flashback. Tracks from the past. One measly hour. Yeah, it's one measly hour of 2021 left in this world in about 59 minutes. Bye bye. Here is DJ Demon and let's play some more music.
A jacking of stage magician and it's called Rainforest. It's not a note pleats rainforest if you're thinking about that, but it's a great one. And we are going on with a Norwegian wonder, Jogir Liljedal Moonlit.
fellow artist Sirius wrote in 2018 on the mod-archive. It's not the best you have to my taste, but it does not stop being a very good song. You are an example for me. I'm not the only one, that's for sure. Excellent, of course. Arne Puselsky.in 2009 wrote beautiful track, very good samples and excellent composing. This song has an excellent atmosphere, I like it. 2019 same year, it's Saga Musics actually. The usual Jogair quality, human beatbox, wonderful chords and melodies, guitars, what else do you want?
Swedish artist Joel Little wee kladdkakes In Swedish kladdkaka Which is where the song gets its title from Is simply a chocolate cake that is very sticky and gooey Which is what kladdig means And what do mod archive commenters like it then you might ask Arne Pusselskiwrote in 2009, Jule is one of the best ship composers. I like his little art of happiness. Awesome melody and awesome sound building. I can only say wow. Moulek wrote in 2008, Good rock, really like it.
Midnight in Arabia, Mystical of Purple. With 40 minutes to go until 2021 ends. What can we say about it? Well, the demo parties were great. Many of them were actually opening up so people can come there and actually be there physically. I personally were at Edison 2021 and broadcast live. Many of the other ones wereAlas, only online. 10 demo parties or so we covered on this station. The latest one and the last for this year, I guess, is simply the one that's called Deadline, and it was in Australia. Really nice, if you ask me.
Nebularia, it begins after silence. 2021 on the Amiga or C64 front. I have no good memories from that. I'm sorry. There has been some minor stuff and we talked about it a few weeks ago in the Christmas episode. Actually, it was the episode before the Christmas one. Anyway, I can kind of feel it's a bit of slim pickings there. We see saw somevampire cards and that's great and so but it seems like the bigger wave of invention it's simply not there anymore but I'm looking forward to the a 500 mini and I don't know about the mega 65
That audience is a bit too looped even for my taste. It was Necros of FM and the Grey Note. Some good news coming out of the scene here in Sweden. It's not the demo scene, but it's the club scene. Not parties. We're talking about a computer club called SCK. Svenska Commodoreklubben, the Swedish Commodore Club. It's held by a number of really talented retro nerds. And I would say if you are here in Sweden, go to commodore.se and join them. I'm a member and I like exactly everything they're doing. They made a diskette that they released. Yeah, a .ADF file with a lot of cool member stuff on. Yeah, I love the fact that the disk mags are back.
The Errocade Radio Network. The leader in tracked music.
The Wadrow of Flash Ink Another Worlds Yeah, I know, sounds weird but the grammar error is in the title. Whoever wrote it, the squadron I guess, misspelled it. We are going on with Radix and LA Blue Girl. This is Ericade.radio and Flashback, tracks from the past.
Radix, LA blue girl as I said. And I'm only mentioning that again because Radix comes here with another song. In this case he is with Silo and Sisy. The song is called Rainbow Dash. I don't think that is my little pony reference.
Yeah, right We are going on here and only minutes to go before we have to close down For 2021 and then one second later. It's 2022. That's how time works kind of arbitrary but yeah, okay, guess this time I'm gonna have a glass of gin and tonic the last one and that I go into bedI was kinda drunk last New Year's, so I had to stop broadcasting. But now I am perfectly sober. Weird.
Yep, I'm packing my stuff up here. All I'm gonna say is thank you for a very nice 2021. We've made so much and next year is gonna be more music, more flashback tracks from the past and more technology improvements of the website and the radio station and everything. Please support us. We don't need money, but we need your time. Go to discord.io slash T-E-R-N and join us.
And that's it, folks. DJ D-mo leaving the airwaves right here, right now. Thank you for listening and yeah... I need to go fill up on my gin and tonic as I said.
Radio Network, time for a special bulletin.
Hello, it's me, DJ D-1 here. I hope you can hear me. Normally I broadcast what is called voice track, so it's the same hour at least, but right now it's live. It's here and it's now and I want to say happy 2022. 2020 was no good. 2021 not much better. So I have high hopes for this one. It's hard to kinda make it worse. But as I always say, don't tell that to 2022. Somebody might say, hold my beer. Okay, a few words and then I will return you to the music, I promise you. It is about now 28 years.since I started broadcasting. Yeah, that's true. In 1994, I started my career as a hobby broadcaster. I only ever worked with what you say, community broadcasting, not a solid position. But as I actually am responsible for a sponsored podcast that has regular sponsors, I guess I got to be a radio DJ or an audio engineer for real, actually. Yeah, that's nice.Next year more music, more cool interviews, more podcasts and of course more cool features on the website I guess. So okay I will not hold you hostage here to my ramblings or something. I just want to say it again Happy New Year and get home safely.
